History and Geography · Primary School · Junior Infants to 6th Class
A History course and a Geography course for 3rd Class and for 4th Class, on the online learning platform. You teach each lesson from the board, every lesson has a pupil sheet to print, and the fieldwork happens around your own school. Built to the NCCA Primary Social and Environmental Education specification.
Platform used by 1 in 3 schools
Each course is 36 lessons, one a week across the school year. Open one to see its lessons, module by module.
You teach from the board, which carries the source, the map and the class's own findings. Pupils ask what a source shows and what it cannot tell them, mark what they find on a map or a timeline, and go outside to see it for themselves. The courses start in your own area, so a city school and a country school each work from their own streets, fields and history.
What pupils do across the year
photographs, census pages, maps and old accounts, asking what each one can and cannot tell us
a class map wall that grows all year, with every find marked on it
walks, surveys and visits around the school, with a plan for a wet day
a timeline wall in the classroom, with every dated thing the class meets on it
The Social and Environmental Education specification was published in 2025 as part of the Primary Curriculum Framework. It sets no topics, so every lesson here is built around a named Stage 3 learning outcome. Each course starts from your pupils' own area and works outward, to the island of Ireland and then to Europe and the wider world.
