The Business Studies CBAs as They Run Now

This lesson sets out how the Junior Cycle Business Studies CBAs run this year: a minimum of one CBA, your school's choice of one or two, no Assessment Task, and this year's dates. You rate your confidence at the start of the course, see both CBAs at a glance, study a class planner built back from the SLAR date, and note your class's CBA dates.

1 - Overview ~2 mins

Welcome to JC Business Studies: Running Business in Action and the Presentation. This short course has four lessons of about 30 minutes. You know your Business Studies; this course is about running the two CBAs with a whole class, from the first week to the SLAR meeting.

In this first lesson you rate your confidence, see how the CBAs run this year, and study a class planner built back from the SLAR date. Then you note your class's CBA dates. Your survey, reflections and judged sample across the four lessons compile into a downloadable Professional Learning Portfolio when you finish.

2 - Baseline Confidence Audit ~3 mins

Before the presentation, rate your confidence on the five areas this course develops. There are no right answers. You will rate the same five statements at the end of the course, so you can compare each rating with your first.

3 - Understanding the CBAs as They Run Now ~6 mins

Watch this presentation on the Business Studies CBAs as they run now: this year's arrangements and dates, both CBAs at a glance, the four descriptors, and planning back from the SLAR date.

4 - A CBA Class Planner, Annotated ~9 mins

Study this class planner, filled in for an invented second-year class running Business in Action and planned back from the SLAR date. Read the notes on each choice.

Download the blank planner to use with your own class: CBA class planner (Word).

5 - Your Class's CBA Dates ~7 mins

Use the planner you have just studied to start a plan for your own classes. Download the blank template if you want the full planner beside you: CBA class planner (Word). On screen, answer one question. It saves to your Professional Learning Portfolio as My Class's CBA Dates.

6 - Key Takeaways ~3 mins

In this lesson you set a confidence baseline and mapped how the Business Studies CBAs run this year.

Key ideaWhy it matters for your teachingClassroom application
A minimum of one CBA, no Assessment TaskFor this year's third years your school decides on one or two CBAs, and there is no Assessment TaskCheck your school's decision before you plan the Presentation with your third years
Two CBAs, two time limitsBusiness in Action is a group project within a maximum of four weeks; the Presentation is an individual presentation within a maximum of three weeksPut this year's latest dates at the top of your planner: Friday 30 April 2027 and Friday 9 April 2027
The SLAR date firstThe guidelines recommend fixing it at the outset, and this year's note asks for SLAR no more than a month after the CBA is completedOur suggestion: agree the date with your colleagues, then plan back from it in the CBA class planner (Word)

Next: running Business in Action, its three options and four areas of activity, and each student's own evidence in a group project.
