Welcome to ICT

In this lesson, you will choose a meaningful real-world project to develop over 10 weeks, grasp the course structure, and set up your Digital Portfolio in cloud storage. Create a Project Brief document outlining your project's what, why, who, and three ICT goals. Follow the watch-then-do approach to build skills independently.

    1 - Welcome

Warm-up (30 seconds): Think of one thing you'd love to plan or pitch — an LCA trip, school event, fundraiser, club relaunch, or personal project. Jot it down.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Understand the course structure and Something Real project spine
    • Select a personally meaningful project idea
    • Create and organise your Digital Portfolio folder in cloud storage
    • Complete your Project Brief page for the portfolio

Each lesson follows our 'watch then do' approach: explanation → demonstration → your independent practice.

This 10-week module builds skills through Something Real — one project you choose today that you'll carry through every lesson. Your Digital Portfolio (folder + documents) becomes proof of your skills.

    2 - Key Concepts

    Course Structure

    • 10 weekly lessons = 10 pages added to your Digital Portfolio
    • Something Real project spine: Pick ONE real thing today (solo or pair — teacher's choice). Carry it through research → proposal → budget → pitch deck → live 2-minute pitch
    • Portfolio = your deliverable: Folder you create today + one new page each week

    Project Examples

    • LCA trip to Galway or Cork
    • School charity bake sale
    • Lunchtime film/gaming club relaunch
    • Fundraiser for local sports club
    • Your own: podcast, small online shop, parents proposal

    File Basics

    • docx = editable Word/Google Docs
    • pdf = fixed, shareable format
    • jpg/png = photos/images
    • Cloud storage = OneDrive (Microsoft) or Google Drive (Google)

3 - Exploration: Find Your Cloud Storage

Locate your school's cloud storage (OneDrive or Google Drive) and explore the main screen. This is where your Digital Portfolio lives.

4 - Demonstration: Create Your Portfolio Folder & Project Brief

Follow these exact steps to create your Digital Portfolio. Watch carefully — you'll do your own version next.

    Sample Project Brief content:

    • What: 'LCA charity bake sale raising €500 for local animal shelter'
    • Why: 'Love baking + want to help animals'
    • Who: 'LCA students as bakers, whole school as customers'
    • 3 ICT goals: '1. Make budget in Excel, 2. Design posters in PowerPoint, 3. Research best sellers online'
