    1 - Getting Started ~3 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedJoin in this short clap pattern with me. Clap, stamp, clap, stamp, clap, stamp. Which bit keeps happening again and again?

Today we will put a job's steps in order, spot the part that repeats, and fix a step that has gone wrong.

2 - Steps, Repeats and Bugs ~5 mins

We just clapped and stamped together. Watch me put that job into small steps on cards.

    Key point

The bit that keeps coming back is the repeat. A wrong step that spoils the plan is a bug.

Where is the repeat in my cards? What would a bug look like?

3 - Order the Cards and Circle the Repeat ~12 mins

Your group gets a pack of step-cards. The steps are already written on the cards. Put the cards in the right order so the job works. Act the sequence once to check. Then circle the part that happens again and again.

Be ready to show your ordered steps and point to the repeat.

    4 - Find the Bug ~10 mins

Set your ordered cards to one side. Open the new buggy pack your teacher gives you. One step is wrong on purpose. Act the sequence, spot the bug, and use the fix card so the job works again.

5 - Record What We Found ~5 mins

    Key point

On your Investigation Journal page, record three short things only: the repeat you circled (name it or stick those cards), what the bug was, and how you fixed it. You do not need to copy every step.
