Make, Share and Reflect

In this lesson you will build a helper based on your plan. You will share it with your user, listen to kind feedback, and decide on one improvement. Finally, you will record your work on your journal page.

    1 - Getting Started ~3 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedToday we make the helper we planned. Look at your plan. Who is your user, and what one job must your helper do?

    2 - Make Our Helper ~16 mins

    Key point

Use your plan. Build so your helper can do its one job. Finished enough means one working main join and one simple try of the job — neatness is not needed.

    1. Look at your plan and name the one job again.
    2. Gather the materials you listed.
    3. Build the main parts first.
    4. Join the parts carefully with tape or glue.
    5. Try the helper job once and fix anything that falls apart.

    3 - Share Our Helper ~10 mins

Show your helper to your user and the class. Say who it is for, what job it does, and how it works. Listen for one kind comment.

If you are watching, listen for the job the helper does and be ready with one kind comment: I like… or I wonder…

4 - Feedback and One Change ~3 mins

Think about the kind feedback you heard. Then tell a partner: what one thing would you change next time to make your helper even better for your user?

5 - Record on Our Journal Page ~5 mins

Illustration for Record on our journal page

    Key point

You will get your Investigation Journal page now. We said our idea out loud. Now draw or write on your page so you remember it next time you make. Record:

    • what we made
    • the kind feedback we heard
    • one thing we would change
    Tip

A labelled drawing is enough if writing feels hard.
