    1 - Welcome & Warm-up

Warm-up (30 seconds): Think about your Something Real project from Lesson 1. What is one question you still have about it that you could research? Jot it down.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Ethically research a topic online for another module and produce a short report
    • Apply search, evaluation and word processing skills to create 1–2 page report
    • Cite sources and disclose any AI assistance honestly
    • Choose topic that also supports another LCA course and your Something Real project

This is KA2 Workshop Part 1 — you'll build the first draft of your researched report that combines what you've learned about your Something Real with research skills from earlier lessons.

    2 - Key Concepts

    Research Report Structure

    Your KA2 report must:

    • Connect to your Something Real AND another LCA module (e.g., if your project is a fundraiser, research charity regulations from Business)
    • Have 3 sections: Introduction, Findings, Conclusion
    • Include at least 1 image with caption
    • Cite 3+ sources at the bottom (format: 'Author/Source, accessed [today's date]')
    • Disclose AI use honestly: 'I used [AI tool] to generate search terms which I verified with [source]'

    Source Citation Examples

    • Website: 'CitizensInformation.ie, accessed [today's date]'
    • Government stats: 'CSO.ie population data, accessed [today's date]'
    • AI: 'ChatGPT suggested keywords which I verified using CitizensInformation.ie, accessed [today's date]'

Always use today's actual date when you access each source.

    3 - Step-by-step: Sample Report Structure

Follow these steps to build a complete sample report using a worked research example. This shows the full process: research → evaluation → writing → formatting.

Worked example topic: 'Planning a TY charity bake sale (Something Real) + food safety rules (HSE Business module)'

Quick research (2 min): Use Lesson 2 skills:

    • Search: "HSE food safety community bake sale Ireland" or "FSAI baked goods temperature Ireland"
    • Evaluate: Check .ie government sites first (most reliable: fsai.ie, hse.ie)
    • Note 3 facts: Temperature rules, handwashing, allergen labels

    4 - Portfolio Build: Your Ka2 Report

    🚀 Your Task

Create 04_ka2_research_report_v1 for your actual Something Real project + another LCA module. Follow the exact process from the sample above.

    ✅ Success Checklist

    • 3 sections + Reflection section on new page with proper headings
    • Connects your Something Real to another LCA module
    • 1+ image with caption
    • 3+ cited sources (including any AI use)
    • Saved in Digital Portfolio folder

    💡 Quick Start Ideas

    • Fundraiser: "charity fundraising rules Ireland students" (CitizensInformation.ie)
    • Trip/event: "[location] tourism stats CSO" (CSO.ie)
    • Club/project: "[topic] best practices Ireland" (.ie government sites)

    🛠️ Scaffold Help (if needed)

    Option 1: Copy your SAMPLE_ka2_report → {{menu:Edit -> Find & Replace}} all 'bake sale' with your topic.
Option 2: Pair with a classmate (one researches, one types).

    ❓ Troubleshooting

If you're stuck, here's what usually fixes it:

    • No Insert Image? It's hiding in {{menu:Insert}} menu – click there first
    • Caption looks weird? Word: {{menu:References -> Insert Caption}}. Docs: Put image 'Inline' + {{key:Enter}} below
    • Headings look wrong? Use Styles/Format dropdown (not just Bold button)
    • No page break? Word: {{kbd:Ctrl+Enter}}. Docs: {{menu:Insert -> Break -> Page break}}
