    1 - Welcome & Warm-up

    Warm-up (30 seconds): Open your Digital Portfolio folder from Lesson 6. Find your Numbers Sheet (budget, timeline, survey, or inventory). What's one formula you used? Does it do real work for your project?

    By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Select your best spreadsheet that demonstrates use of formulas for KA1
    • Ensure every formula performs genuine work for your Something Real project
    • Polish formatting, references and error checking
    • Prepare spreadsheet evidence for LCA Practical Achievement or Vocational Education Tasks

    Today you'll upgrade your spreadsheet from Lesson 6 into KA1-quality evidence. Every formula must solve a real problem for your Something Real project.

    2 - Key Concepts & Formulas

    What makes a KA1 spreadsheet 'evidence'?

    • Genuine work: Every formula answers a real question about your project
    • Error-free: No #DIV/0!, #REF!, or #NAME? errors
    • Professional formatting: Currency, borders, bold headers
    • Clear labels: Every column explains itself
    • Decision support: At least one formula that could change your plan

    Formula checklist

    FormulaPurposeExample
    {{formula:=SUM(range)}}Total costs/items{{formula:=SUM(B2:B10)}} — total budget
    {{formula:=AVERAGE(range)}}Average cost per item{{formula:=AVERAGE(C2:C10)}} — avg price
    {{formula:=IF(condition, true, false)}}Decision trigger{{formula:=IF(B11>500, "Over budget", "OK")}}
    {{formula:=ROUND(number,0)}}Clean numbers{{formula:=ROUND(B11,0)}} — no decimals
    {{formula:=CEILING(number,significance)}}Round up to next whole{{formula:=CEILING(23/5,1)}} = 5

    3 - Study These Worked Examples

    Example 1: Event Budget Decision Formulas

    Sample: School talent show. Goal: Check if €400 budget covers 23 tickets × €5.

    • Add column F1: "Decision"
    • F11: {{formula:=IF(B11>400, "OVER BUDGET - cut costs", "Good to go")}}
    • Add column G1: "Sales needed"
    • G12: {{formula:=CEILING(400/5,1)}} = 80 tickets

    Example 2: Survey Response Analysis

    Sample: 10 survey responses in column B. Goal: Average > 7/10?

    • Add column C1: "Avg Score"
    • C11: {{formula:=AVERAGE(B2:B10)}}
    • Add column D1: "Result"
    • D12: {{formula:=IF(C11>7, "Survey Success", "Needs Improvement")}}

    See img_009 (budget), img_010 (survey) showing column insertion.

    Next step: Pick one example that matches YOUR project type.

    4 - Step-by-step: Review & Diagnose Your Spreadsheet

    Review your Lesson 6 Numbers Sheet using this diagnostic checklist. Fix errors as you find them. Google Sheets users: Do all your edits here first. Download final .xlsx version at end of lesson (step 6).

    Success criteria: No formula errors, all totals work, professional formatting applied
