    1 - Welcome

Warm-up (30 seconds): Think about your Proposal Draft from Lesson 4. What information would be clearer in a table than in paragraphs? (A timeline? Costs? Steps? Comparison of options?)

Last lesson you created your Proposal Draft. Today you'll upgrade it with a table to make your information clearer and more professional for your Digital Portfolio.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Insert tables into a document (as per LCA Introduction to ICT word processing module)
    • Create, format and style a simple table for structured data (timeline, costs, comparison)
    • Use tables to present vocational information clearly
    • Prepare data presentation skills needed for later spreadsheet and chart work

    2 - Key Concepts

    Why tables matter

Tables organise information so people can scan and compare at a glance. They're perfect for timelines, budgets, steps, or options — exactly the kind of vocational information you'll use in your Digital Portfolio.

    Table basics

    • Cells: Individual boxes where you put text/numbers
    • Rows: Horizontal lines of cells (add rows to add more items)
    • Columns: Vertical lines of cells (add columns to add more details)
    • Header row: First row with bold titles (makes tables readable)

    Formatting for clarity

    • Bold header row
    • Align numbers right, text left
    • Adjust column widths to fit content
    • Add borders and shading for professional look

    3 - Step-by-step: Create a Sample Table

Follow these instructions to create a sample table about planning a TY trip to Galway. This teaches you the skills you'll use in your own Digital Portfolio project.

    Common Issues

    • Table too small: Drag the bottom-right corner to resize, or right-click table → Table Properties
    • Can't see Insert menu: Make sure you're not inside a text box or image
    • Text wraps strangely: Right-click table → Table Properties → adjust column width
    • Keyboard shortcuts: Use {{kbd:Ctrl}} (Windows/Chromebook) or {{kbd:Cmd}} (Mac)

4 - Portfolio Build: Upgrade Your Proposal

Your Digital Portfolio page for this lesson: Add a table to your Proposal Draft from Lesson 4.

    Success criteria:

    • Open your existing Proposal Draft from your Digital Portfolio folder
    • Insert a table with at least 3 rows × 2 columns
    • Table shows project information clearly (timeline, costs, steps, options, etc.)
    • Header row bold, borders visible, columns properly sized, numbers right-aligned
    • Save as Polished Proposal v2 (both .docx AND .pdf)

Example ideas: TY trip budget, fundraiser timeline, club relaunch steps, podcast recording schedule, event costs comparison.
