LC History: Preparing for the New Research Study Report

A two-and-a-half-hour course for Leaving Certificate History teachers preparing for the new specification, which schools introduce in September 2027. Its Research Study Report is worth 40%: the SEC issues a common brief in term two of fifth year, and students submit their reports to the SEC in sixth year. The NCCA's guidelines for the report and the first brief are still to come, so the course plans the two years with those dates open and builds the inquiry skills the report draws on: a research question and its historical significance, primary and secondary sources, context and differing accounts. It covers authentication, referencing and AI use under the SEC's Coursework Rules and Procedures, and every template is yours to download and adapt.
