TY: Running a Senior Cycle Subject Sampler

A two-hour course for TY coordinators, guidance counsellors and the teachers who run subject tasters in Transition Year. The TY Programme Statement gives sampling of senior cycle subjects a place among the elective modules, and says TY should not be used to spread a Leaving Certificate subject specification over three years. The course shows how to plan a sampler with your TY Core Team, design tasters that give students a feel for a subject without starting it, describe four subjects with new specifications from their own documents, and build a reflection after each taster into the TY portfolio, so students choose their subjects better informed.
