Welcome to Module 4: Express Yourself

Begin Module 4 by naming its four Key Assignments and when the oral examination happens. Agree the class anchor set and write a reflective journal entry on your voice and what you want to put into the world.

    1 - Getting Started ~5 mins

You are in Year 2 of LCA English and Communications, and this is Module 4: Express Yourself. The focus shifts. For three modules you have read, analysed and responded to other people's work. Now you build work that carries your own voice: song, poetry, drama, a personal composition, and your two-year journal.

Your Course Brief is the short planner at the front of your Reflective Journal. Today the only new line going in is the four anchor set titles.

Today you map the module, settle the class anchor set from your teacher's shortlist, take a short self-check if time allows, write Journal Entry 10 (the main piece), and take a short spoken turn from that entry.

2 - Module Map, Model Entry, Anchor Set ~7 mins

Anchor set: four texts this class keeps all module (two poems, one song or rap, one drama text). You will name, quote and compare them, so choose pieces you can actually hold.

Oral examination: in May of Year 2, worth 4 course credits, with an examiner appointed by the SEC.

Model entry (opening only): "I used to think my voice was the quiet one in group work. Looking back, the pieces I am proudest of are the ones where I stopped trying to sound clever and said the true thing in plain words. Before I leave LCA I want one piece in the world that sounds like me on a good day, not like a worksheet." Notice: a past self, a concrete turn, and a clear want. That is the shape of Entry 10.

You will complete four Key Assignments: a song, rap or poem comparison (KA1), a personal composition (KA2), a response to a live or staged performance (KA3), and the two-year journal update (KA4).

Agree the anchor set now: your teacher has a shortlist. As a class you settle four titles (two poems, one song or rap, one drama text or extract). Those four go on the board. Copy the board titles into Entry 10 and your Course Brief. Do not invent four texts on your own.

    3 - Look Back ~12 mins

Before you write Entry 10, take a short honest read of where you stand. Rate each line and name real evidence: a piece, a moment, a KA.

The ratings on screen are not saved. When you finish, press Copy for my portfolio and paste them into the box below.

4 - Write Your Journal Entry ~24 mins

This is the main piece of the lesson and your Portfolio piece: Reflective Journal Entry 10, What I want to say.

At the top of the entry, copy the four anchor set titles from the board. Then write honestly about where your voice has come from across these two years, and what you want to put into the world before you leave LCA. Aim for a past self, a concrete turn, and a clear want, the way the model did.

In class today: draft here on screen (8–12 sentences, about 100–180 words). Then tap any tags that fit. One strong marked draft in class is enough.

Before next lesson: copy the finished entry into your Reflective Journal (the Entry 10 your teacher checks), and write only the four titles into your Course Brief.

Save a copy in your Communication Portfolio as m4_l91_journal_entry_10_<your-initials>.

Journal Entry 10: What I want to say

5 - Say It Out Loud ~7 mins

Take a short spoken turn from the entry you just wrote. Do not read it off the page. Say where your voice has come from and what you want to put into the world. This is practice talking about your own work. It is not a timed mock of any exam.

Work in pairs at the same time. Deliver live to your partner. If a microphone works you can record it in the oral studio too, but live delivery is enough. Then write one line under Entry 10 in your journal: who heard you, and the one thing you would change next time. Use the three plan prompts as brief notes only; never a full script on screen.
