Online Presentation Formats: Social Media Pages

Transform one of your investigation findings into a short social-style post. Use a hook to grab attention, present one clear fact with a visual note, and finish with a close. Draft everything safely in a document for class use.

    1 - Introduction ~5 mins

    Illustration for Introduction

    Today you will

    • turn one fact from your investigation into a social-style post
    • write a strong first line and a picture idea
    • save your draft in a school document, not a personal account
    Warm-up

Think of the last post that made you stop scrolling. Was it the first line, the picture or a surprising number?

If you have no fact ready, use this one: two websites gave different deadlines for one apprenticeship.

    2 - Key Concepts ~7 mins

The five jobs in a post

    • The hook is the first line, and it makes people stop scrolling.
    • The fact is the one clear point your post makes.
    • The visual note describes the picture that goes with the post.
    • The close tells the reader what to do next.
    • Tone is how the post sounds. It should suit the platform.

Example hook: “Two official pages, two different deadlines. Only one was still open.”

Your teacher will read five lines. Say which job each one does.

    3 - Step-by-step Task ~15 mins

Now you will build a practice post in Word or Google Docs. Use the sample post below for your first lines, then follow the steps in the box below.

    Sample post (LinkedIn-style)

    • Hook: Two “official” pages, two different deadlines. Only one was still open.
    • Fact: Cross-checking the ETB listing against the second site showed a two-week gap on the same apprenticeship route.
    • Why it matters: If you only open the first result, you can miss a live window or chase a closed one.
    • Visual note: Side-by-side screenshot labels with the dates highlighted.
    • Source: ETB apprenticeship listing cross-checked against a second public page
    • Close: Before you trust a deadline online, open a second independent source. What deadline are you checking this week?

    4 - Common Issues ~3 mins

    Common snags

    • My hook is just my topic title. Rewrite it as a claim that would stop someone scrolling.
    • I put three facts in one post. Keep one fact and save the rest for later.
    • I want to post it on Instagram. Please don't do that. Keep it in your document or on the school's class-only space.
