1 - Best Day, Worst Day ~5 mins

Illustration for Best day, worst dayWhich day of the week is best, and which is worst? Say why in English, in one short sentence each.

In many Spanish schools the week is written as a horario (timetable). Today you will learn the seven day names so you can read one.

En España, muchos dicen que su día favorito es el sábado o el domingo. ¡Vamos a aprender los siete!

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Name all seven days in Spanish
    • Put a day and a time together in a short routine sentence
    • Spot where Spanish day names come from

    2 - Seven Spanish Days ~10 mins

Here are all seven days in Spanish. We will learn them in two chunks: weekdays first, then the weekend. Tap each one, listen, then say it back together.

Watch the accents on miércoles and sábado, and notice that Spanish days do not start with a capital letter.

    Our pattern for today:

Los lunes a las ocho juego al fútbol = On Mondays at eight I play football.

Say the model with the class, then swap the day or the time and say it again.

    3 - Match the Days ~8 mins

Watch the board. When a Spanish day is turned, whisper it. Hands up if you want a turn to flip two cards and find each Spanish day with its English name.

After every match, the whole class whispers the Spanish day together.

    4 - Into Your Copy ~6 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

You have heard the days again in bingo. First we say a few day-and-time lines together from the board. Then open your copy and write two lines for your own horario.

Board model: Los lunes a las ocho juego al fútbol (On Mondays at eight I play football).

Each line needs a day, a time, and one activity from the board list. Take care with the accents on miércoles and sábado , and keep day names lowercase.

    5 - Days Bingo ~9 mins

You will get a bingo card now. Listen carefully for each Spanish day (sometimes inside a short phrase) and mark it on your card. First full line calls out.
