Module 3 Recap + Bridge to Module 4

Review your Module 3 key assignments to confirm they are complete or flagged for attention. Reflect on the ways stories are presented in different media. Prepare a creative intention for the next module by writing a reflective journal entry.

    1 - Getting Started ~5 mins

Module 3 is finished. Across these weeks you read media forms, compared coverage of one event three ways, made a real advertisement, and compared a film with a related text.

Today’s core work is the audit and Reflective Journal Entry 9: check that the four Module 3 Key Assignments are banked (finished and filed in your portfolio) or flagged (gap noted with a catch-up plan), write about how stories are told, and name one creative intention for Module 4 (song, poetry and drama). If time allows, you will also speak that intention aloud to a peer.

    2 - What a Good Entry Does ~7 mins

A strong module-end entry does three jobs: it looks back with evidence, it names what changed in how you see stories, and it points forward with one concrete intention.

TermWhat it means for youReal example
Module recapCheck what is actually in your portfolio, not what you meant to finish.Open four folders and tick what is complete before you write.
StorytellingSay how radio, print, film or an ad shaped the same kind of story differently.Local paper names scorers; club phone video shows the crowd; local radio carries the feeling in sound.
Creative intentionModule 4 starts with something you chose, not a blank page.I want to draft a short verse that uses a repeated line like a hook.
BridgeYour last line of Entry 9 hands you into song, poetry and drama. One sentence naming the form you want to try first in Module 4.

    Exemplar (notice the three jobs):

Before this module I thought a story was just what happened. My three-channel comparison of the same local event changed that: the paper named every speaker, the short video only showed faces in the crowd, and the radio piece let the music carry the feeling. I am more sure now that form is part of the meaning. Next term I want to write a short spoken piece that uses sound the way that radio clip did.

Look back with a named piece. Name what changed. Point forward with one intention you could actually try.

    3 - Look Back ~12 mins

Open your Communication Portfolio. Rate yourself on each line and write the evidence: name the piece, the folder, or the gap. A rating with nothing behind it does not count. “Banked” means finished and filed; “flagged” means you note the gap and a catch-up plan. You will lift these KA lines straight into Entry 9 next, so write them once and write them honestly. The ratings are not saved: when you finish, press Copy for my portfolio and paste them into the box below.

Module 3: what is banked, and what you can do

    4 - Write It ~24 mins

This is Reflective Journal Entry 9 and your Module 3 Reflection in one piece. Lift your four KA lines from Look Back as short notes, and add three things you are more confident doing now and one thing you want more practice on. Then write Entry 9 as continuous prose, 6 to 10 sentences, in the draft area below. Entry 9’s official home is your Reflective Journal. When you finish, copy it there and save a portfolio copy as m3_l90_journal_entry9_<your-initials>.

Journal Entry 9 and Module 3 Reflection

5 - Say It Out Loud ~7 mins

In pairs: one speaks, one listens for a clear Module 4 intention, then swap. Take the entry you just wrote. If Entry 9 is still unfinished, speak from your strongest Look Back line plus the intention you have drafted so far. Use short notes, not a full script. Cover two things only: one thing Module 3 taught you about how stories are told, and the creative intention you are carrying into Module 4. Live pair delivery is the default; a recording is optional if your teacher sets it up.
