    1 - Introduction ~5 mins

    Today you will

    • look at a worked plan and four promo styles
    • plan a promo for your Something Real project
    • save your plan as {{code:08_ka3_plan_v1}}

You are only planning today. You build the promo in the next lessons, and that is your Key Assignment piece.

    Warm-up

Write one line naming your Something Real. Then think of the last poster or post that made you stop. What made you look?

    2 - Key Concepts ~6 mins

Your promo can be a poster, flyer, carousel, thumbnail pack or screen display. A carousel is a swipe-through post. A thumbnail pack is a set of small matching pictures for a social post. Each needs text, graphics and an image.

    • Audience: the people you want to reach.
    • Place: where they already look.
    • Key message: one sentence a stranger gets quickly.
    • Must-haves: three things you cannot leave out.
    • Format: the piece that suits them.

    Example

Parents at the club see the clubhouse board, so a poster suits them.

    3 - Study Styles and Walk a Sample KA3 Plan ~15 mins

    Aoife's plan

Aoife sells phone cases in her GAA club colours.

    • Audience: club players and parents
    • Where: club Instagram
    • Message: Cases and stickers at the stall on Saturday
    • Must-haves: product photo, prices, stall time and place
    • Format: a 3-frame Instagram carousel

    Four styles

A poster has a big headline and one photo.

A carousel ends with when and where.

A flyer has one offer and one image.

A screen display has few words.

    4 - Common Issues ~4 mins

    Common snags

    • My audience is "everyone". Name a real group you can picture, like parents at under-14 training.
    • My message is a paragraph. Cut it to one sentence a stranger reads in three seconds.
    • I want three main formats. Pick one main format and build around it.

    5 - Portfolio Build: KA3 Plan ~20 mins

    Portfolio build

Your goal: Plan your Something Real promo in {{code:08_ka3_plan_v1}}.
    Time: ~20 minutes
Task: Watch your teacher open {{code:08_promo}} first, then:
    1. In {{code:08_promo}}, make a document called {{code:08_ka3_plan_v1}}.
    2. Add a table with 2 columns and 6 rows.
    3. Type the six headings from the box below into column 1.
    4. Fill in column 2 with your own answers.
    5. Check your answers are as sharp as Aoife's.
    Success criteria:
    • My audience is a real group, and I say where they will see it.
    • My key message is one short sentence.
    • I have three must-haves, and one is an image.
    • {{code:08_ka3_plan_v1}} is saved in {{code:08_promo}}.

Type these six headings into column 1. The sentence starters can help you fill in column 2.

    1. Target audience
    2. Where they will see it
    3. Key message
    4. 3 must-haves
    5. Chosen format
    6. Why this format

    Sentence starters

    • Audience: People who… at…
    • Key message: [What] at [where], [when].
    • Why this format: They already look at… so a … will reach them.
