Today you bank M4 KA2. You already have a first draft from Lesson 106 and a revised draft from Lesson 107. This lesson turns the revised draft into a polished final, lays it out as a page, and packs the full draft trail so the Key Assignment is complete.
Open both earlier drafts now. Look in your Portfolio for m4_l106_first_draft_<your-initials> and m4_l107_revised_draft_<your-initials> (or the last names you saved them under). If one is missing, use the last version you saved and note the gap in step 4. By the end you will hold a finished page a reader could meet cold, filed with the drafts that got you there.
A polished piece is not a longer piece. It is the same meaning, cleaner. Line breaks, white space and the title are part of how a poem, song or rap reads. For KA2, you file the laid-out page as well as the words.
| Term | What it means for you | In this KA |
|---|---|---|
| Polished composition | Your final words after weak lines are cut, ready for a reader who never saw the drafts | Every line earns its place; a stranger could hear your voice cold |
| Presentation form | Title, line breaks, white space and the shape the page shows first | Title high, stanza break before the turn, room for the last beat to land |
| Draft trail | First, revised and final kept together as proof you drafted, edited and finished | First draft, revised draft, polished text and today's page in one pack |
Same four lines. Two layouts. Hear the difference:
Crowded: the kitchen light was still on / I left my bag by the door / nobody asked where I had been / I put the kettle on anyway
Polished page:
The kitchen light was still on.
I left my bag by the door.
Nobody asked where I had been.
I put the kettle on anyway.
The second version gives the turn room to land. That is presentation form doing real work.
Your revised draft from Lesson 107 opens in the First draft tab of the activity below. If something else is there, or nothing is, paste in your revised draft from m4_l107_revised_draft_<your-initials> in your Portfolio. Write your polished final in the Second draft tab. Short and sharp is fine if every line earns its place. Put its title on the first line.
Do not pack KA2 yet. When the polished final is done, press Copy for my portfolio and paste it into your Portfolio as m4_l108_ka2_final_text_<your-initials>. You pack it with the other three items at the end of the next step.
Copy your polished final from the Second draft tab in step 3. In the activity below, open Text & boxes, press Text and paste it over the words in the Words box, then lay out the page.
In the last few minutes, pack KA2 in a Portfolio folder named m4_l108_ka2_composition_<your-initials>:
m4_l108_ka2_page_<your-initials>If the page is only started, file it anyway and write under Enter Your Work what is still missing and when you will finish it.
