    1 - Introduction ~5 mins

    Today you will

    • pick one tool: PowerPoint for the web, Google Slides or Canva
    • make a practice deck first
    • start {{code:07_project_pitch}} for your Something Real project, with a title slide and a second slide

Illustration for IntroductionIf your project title isn't final yet, a working title is fine for today.

    Warm-up

Think of the last slide deck or Instagram carousel you saw. What grabbed your attention in the first five seconds?

    2 - Key Concepts ~6 mins

A template or theme is a ready-made set of colours, fonts and layouts that you start from.

A slide layout is how the boxes sit on one slide, like Title and Content, or Blank.

The title slide is the first slide. It shows the project name and your name.

PowerPoint for the web, Google Slides and Canva all work. Pick the one you find easiest to use.

    Example: a practice title slide

    • Title: Custom hoodies for local clubs and gigs
    • Subtitle: Róisín Byrne · enterprise pitch

    3 - Step-by-step Task ~15 mins

You will make a practice deck for Róisín's Custom Hoodies. Follow the steps in the box below.

Type these two lines on slide 1:

Custom hoodies for local clubs and gigs

    Róisín Byrne · enterprise pitch

    Using Canva?

    1. Go to {{code:canva.com}} and sign in.
    2. Click {{btn:Create a design}}, then {{btn:Presentation}}.
    3. Rename it {{code:07_project_pitch_practice}}.
    4. Pick a plain, free template.
    5. Type the two lines on page 1.
    6. Click {{btn:Add page}} to make page 2.

    4 - Common Issues ~4 mins

    If something goes wrong

    • If you can't see {{btn:New}}, sign in to OneDrive or Drive with your school account and open {{code:07_pitch}} first.
    • If your file saved in the wrong folder, move it into {{code:07_pitch}}.
    • If the theme looks too busy, switch to a plainer one. You can change it later.

    5 - Independent Practice ~20 mins

    Independent Practice

Your goal: Start the pitch deck for your own Something Real project.
    Time: ~20 minutes
    Task:
    1. Choose one tool to use for the rest of this module.
    2. Open {{code:07_pitch}} and make a new file called {{code:07_project_pitch}}. Don't rename the practice file.
    3. Pick a plain theme or template.
    4. On slide 1, type your project title and your name.
    5. Add a second slide, so you have exactly two slides.

Canva only: Name your design {{code:07_project_pitch}}. Click {{btn:Share}}, choose Anyone with the link and Can view, then click {{btn:Copy link}}. In {{code:07_pitch}}, make a document called {{code:07_project_pitch_canva_link}} and type these three lines.

    Your project name

    Your name

Your Canva link (Anyone with the link can view)

Example: Saturday GAA blitz / Alex Murphy / https://www.canva.com/design/... (Anyone with the link can view)

You will use this file for your pitch.

    Success criteria:
    • {{code:07_project_pitch}} is saved in {{code:07_pitch}}.
    • Slide 1 shows my project title and my name.
    • My deck has a second slide ready for content.
    • I can say which tool I will use.
