    1 - Describe an Outfit ~5 mins

Illustration for Describe an outfitLook at someone nearby or at the picture on the board. In English, describe their clothes and colours in one full sentence.

Today you will do the same thing in German, and you will make the colour word match the clothing word.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Name eight clothing words in German with the right article
    • Join a colour to a clothing word with the right ending
    • Describe what someone is wearing in a full sentence

2 - Eight German Clothes Words ~10 mins

Part 1: the clothes. Here are today's eight clothes words. Tap each one, listen, then say it back together. Watch the article every time: der, die or das.

Part 2: colour match. When a colour comes before the clothing word after Ich trage (I am wearing), the colour ending changes to match. Keep these three anchors only:

    • Ich trage blaue Schuhe (I am wearing blue shoes) — plural: no ein, colour ending -e
    • Ich trage ein rotes Hemd (I am wearing a red shirt) — neuter: ein + colour ending -es
    • Ich trage einen blauen Mantel (I am wearing a blue coat) — masculine: einen + colour ending -en

Recycled colours you already know: blau, rot, grün, schwarz.

    3 - Match the Clothes ~8 mins

Volunteers at the board flip two cards at a time and find each German clothing word with its English meaning.

Everyone else: when a match is found, whisper the full German form with the article (for example die Schuhe). Then the whole class says it aloud together before the next turn.

    4 - Into Your Copy ~5 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

First we build sentences together out loud. Then open your copy and write one short German sentence about what you are wearing: one clothing word and one colour.

Use the frame on the board: Ich trage ______ ______.

5 - Outfit for a Rainy Hamburg Breaktime ~10 mins

Lena is heading out for breaktime in rainy Hamburg. Look at her outfit on the picture. Click the correct German label for each piece of clothing.

When the labels are in place, help build one full German sentence about what she is wearing, using a colour where you can.
