Designing a Pixel Landscape

In this lesson, you'll have a blast creating your own pixel art landscape! You'll learn how to use digital tools and your creativity to design a landscape, pixel by pixel.

1 - Setting Up Piskel

1. Open a web browser and go to Piskelapp.com.
2. Click on 'Create Sprite' to start a new project.

2 - Resize the drawing area

We need some space to create our landscape so we will need to resize the drawing area and make it bigger.

Set it to be width: 100 height: 32.

Piskel: Resize the drawing area

To resize the drawing area follow these steps:

On the right-hand side menu, click on the 'Resize' tab.
Uncheck the 'Maintain aspect ratio' if you want a different width and height.
Enter the width and height that you want.
Click 'Resize'.

The drawing area will resize to your chosen width and height.

3 - Designing the Sky

Select a color for the sky from the color palette.

Click on the paint bucket tool and then click on the canvas to fill it with the selected color.

4 - Creating the Ground

Select a different color for the ground.

Use the pencil tool to draw the ground at the bottom of your canvas.
