1 - Three Words for Today ~5 mins

Illustration for Three words for todayWhat is the weather doing right now? Everyone answers in English in three words only. Ready? Go.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Name everyday weather words in German
    • Pick out weather ideas from a short German chat and match them to today's words
    • Say a weather word when the wheel lands on it

    2 - Eight Weather Words ~10 mins

Morning forecast from Köln: here are today's eight German weather words. First look at the picture, listen to the German, and repeat together. Only after we have heard each word do we flip English to German to check we remember. Watch the capital letters: every German noun starts with one.

3 - Weekend Weather in München ~10 mins

Two friends in München talk about the weekend weather on the phone. You will hear German weather talk on the class speakers. Listen twice before anyone answers.

    Your job

Your job: you do not need every word. Listen for which kinds of weather come up, then match each one to today's German weather words on the board (Der Regen, Die Sonne, and the rest). Choose the best answer for each on-screen question, then say the matching German noun together.

    4 - Into Your Copy ~3 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

Open your copy. Using today's German words on the board, write one line for today's weather and one for the weather you would like tomorrow. Write as if you are texting a friend in Hamburg before a trip along the Rhine. Example: Der Regen / Die Sonne.

    5 - Spin and Say ~10 mins

It is 8am in Köln. The teacher spins the forecast wheel. When it lands, your table whispers the German word together first, then one named pupil says it aloud for the class. Look at the image and the German on the wheel so you are ready.
