Today you build purposeful animation: a four-click process slide and Fade on the deck.
One screen helps and the other distracts. Build the helpful kind.
When did animation help, and when was it noisy?
e.g. steps one by one helped; spinning logos distracted.
Think of one each (no writing). Be ready if asked.
| Concept | Why it matters | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Purposeful animation: shows process or focus | Guides attention; decoration steals it | Four trail steps, one by one |
| Entrance effect: Appear, Fade or Wipe | Keeps eyes on the point | Step 1 fades in; title stays |
| On click: waits for your next click | You set the pace for the room | Click step 1, then step 2 |
| Fade transition: soft change for the whole deck | One quiet style keeps the deck calm | Every slide fades the same way |
Entrances: Animations tab (PowerPoint) or {{menu:Insert -> Animation}} (Google). Transitions: Transitions tab or {{menu:Slide -> Transition}}.
Open {{code:02_talk_deck}} and build one practice process slide. Four lines appear on four clicks, then you set Fade on every slide. Use the sample lines in the box.
Sample process (type these four lines):
Coach model (bake sale): set a price · make posters · run the stall · count takings. Each outline bullet becomes one short slide line.
Stuck mid-task? Jump to Common Issues next, all-at-once, busy effect, wrong order, Fade on one slide only.
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| All four lines appear at once | Four separate text boxes; each entrance On Click, in order. |
| Busy flying effects | Use Appear, Fade or Fade in, or Wipe only. |
| Steps in the wrong order | Drag the list in Animation Pane or Motion panel. |
| Only one slide fades | Fade, then Apply To All / Apply to all slides. |
This is the slide you will click through in your talk. Four clear beats beat a busy list. Safer start: rewrite the sample title and lines into your topic.
Quick redo checklist
Need a path? Same menus as the guided task: Animations and Start On Click (PowerPoint for the web) or Animation on the Insert menu (Google Slides); Transitions, then Apply To All / Apply to all slides.
