1 - Welcome to Nature
Have you ever looked at the Irish countryside and wondered how German people describe the same beautiful landscapes? Today we're exploring how to talk about nature in German - from mountains to beaches, forests to flowers.
Germany has amazing natural places too - think of the Bavarian Alps, the beaches of the North Sea, and forests like the Black Forest. Knowing these words helps you understand German books, songs, and conversations about the environment.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

- Spot nature words in pictures and descriptions
- Listen to German descriptions and understand key words
2 - Pronunciation Guide
Ready to perfect your German pronunciation for describing the world around you? This word table offers a clear reference for key vocabulary, letting you view each term alongside its English translation and listen to authentic audio pronunciation at your own pace.
Take your time exploring the table—repeat after the audio to build confidence in speaking the words fluently. It's a great way to solidify your skills and feel more comfortable using them in conversation.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Digital Reference (Interactive)
- Display the Word Table on the whiteboard or let students access on their devices.
- Click/tap words to hear pronunciation - great for listening and speaking practice.
- Go through each word together, practising pronunciation as a class.
Option 2: Printed Reference Sheet

3 - Label the Landscape
Look carefully at each nature scene and click the correct German label for what's shown! Each picture has four choices - listen to the audio if you need help deciding.
These are real German landscapes you'll see in books and on postcards. Great job practising your visual recognition skills!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Label the Image activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students see an image and select the correct word from multiple choices. Good for visual learners.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Show the image and have students write their answer on mini whiteboards before revealing options.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Word Hunt Challenge
Time for some detective work! Find all the hidden German nature words in the letter grid by clicking and dragging to highlight them. Words go horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Work quickly but carefully - can you find them all? This helps you recognise the spelling patterns of German nature vocabulary.
How to Use This Activity:

5 - Listen to Nature
Listen carefully to the German audio descriptions, then answer the comprehension questions by clicking the correct choice. You'll hear conversations about nature scenes and outdoor activities.
This helps you understand nature vocabulary in real spoken German, just like you'd hear on a German hiking trail or nature programme!

- Students listen to audio and answer comprehension questions. They can replay audio as needed.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.

- Play audio to the whole class, then discuss answers together. Replay tricky sections.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
